Patricia Reed has been a Marriage and Family Therapist for 14 years,
and first came to Milpitas in 1993. New Hope Counseling was originally
located on the grounds of First Presbyterian Church (Christ Community)
but in 2002, she moved her practice to 500 East Calaveras Blvd.
“It took four post-graduate years and 3,000 supervised intern
hours to get my Marriage and Family Therapist license,” Patricia
says.
After earning her BA in Psychology from San Francisco State, Patricia
took a second BA in Biblical Literature from Simpson College and
a Master’s in MFCC Counseling from Santa Clara University.
“I started the long road to 3,000 hours as a single parent
working at halfway houses, clinics, Juvenile Hall and schools for
emotionally and physically disabled students.”
How do people become healed at New Hope?
“Listening is the healing medicine. I use cognitive behavioral
therapy, which helps a person or family in crisis to consider new
ways of thinking about their issues and possible solutions.”
Patricia’s specialties include marriage, adolescent and family
conflicts, diagnosis and treatment of childhood disorders, grief,
depression and anxiety problems.”
Hands-on experience comes as a mother of three adult children and
wife of a businessman, with challenges of a blended family. “My
own life is a laboratory where I, too, work out issues and practice
new ways of thinking? That’s why I call my counseling ‘New
Hope’.
